Glandorf initially became a holding siding, and from 1939 a shunting
yard until operations ceased entirely in 1990.
Bahnhof-Hotel Verdino
The railways and the timber trade with
Italy gave the former ducal town new
impetus and brought an economic upturn.
Business travellers and people passing
through the town found accommodation at
August Verdino’s railway hotel, the “Verdino” in Glandorf.
With the construction of the new St. Veit passenger station near the
town, the station hotel in Glandorf gradually lost its importance for
railway travellers.
Railway uniforms
In the monarchy a railway worker was regarded as a
person worthy of respect. The uniforms were sleek
and colourful, with braiding, epaulettes, gold borders
and insignia.
The uniforms reflected the rank and duties of the
wearer.
The antique Thonet bench and the crockery in the
display case come from the station restaurant or the station hotel. The
lamp is also an inventory item from the station restaurant.
Uniforms from the time of the Deutsche Reichsbahn
[German Reich Railway], from 1939 to 1945.
Here you can see the uniform of a chairman of the
Reichsbahn and another senior official with all the
regalia from this time.
