Railway workers during the resistance struggle
Many people felt under threat under
National Socialism, including railway
employees. The Nazis responded to the
resistance with drastic force. 154
railway workers were executed for high
treason, 7 of them from St. Veit, and
135 lost their lives in concentration
camps. During the period from 13
March 1938 (annexation by the German Reich) to 1945, 1,635 railway
workers fell victim to National Socialist justice.
Seven honest Sankt Veit railway workers were sentenced to death at 5
o’clock in the morning on 30 June 1942 by the regional court of Vienna,
on the grounds of preparation for high treason.
