and at the same time a man of God. This dualism was characteristic of
his humane attitude and his poetic works.

Scarcely anyone else has had such a decisive influence on the musical
life of Carinthia since 1945 as Dr. Günther Mittergradnegger (1923-
1992), who with his feet firmly on the ground of the old Carinthian
music tradition gave the musical creations of the province fresh impetus
to flourish afresh, thus pointing the way for choral music in particular.
After the war he worked as a music teacher, and in 1948 he founded the
Klagenfurt Madrigalchor Choir, which rose to become one of the leading
choirs in Austria and even in Europe. Alongside this, one of Günther
Mittergradnegger’s special concerns continued to be providing support
for the Carinthian folk song.

Marksmanship from St. Veit

St. Veit is delighted to have in its
possession one of the largest, most
extensive and artistically most important
collections of Baroque marksmen’s
targets. The high quality execution of the
targets tells us of the prosperity of the citizens. The marksmen’s targets
and the marksmen’s guilds are associated with firearms such as flintlock
muskets, air-operated guns and cavalry pistols.
